Saint Paul, MN — National Co+op Grocers (NCG) — the business services cooperative for retail food co-ops nationwide — today announces its board has approved three new members.

“From an established co-op serving its community for generations, to a newer co-op located near an iconic location, and to a start-up co-op preparing to open its storefront, we are excited to support these co-ops as they seek to grow their impacts,” said C.E. Pugh, National Co+op Grocers’ CEO. Joining are:

Detroit People’s Food Co-op (Detroit, Michigan)

The Detroit People’s Food Co-op is an African American-led start-up co-op. Founded in 2010 with a mission to provide improved access to healthy food and food education to its community, the co-op is planning to open its first retail store in February 2024. Purple Porch Food Co-op (South Bend, Indiana)

Since 2009, Purple Porch Food has been connecting its community to local growers, suppliers, farmers and producers who keep health, sustainability, ethics and community in mind.
