SAINT PAUL, Minn. – National Co+op Grocers (NCG) – the business services cooperative for retail food co-ops nationwide – today announces its newest members, High Falls Food Co-op and Assabet Co-op Market.

Located in the fast-growing area of High Falls, New York, High Falls Co-op was established in 1974 and upholds the mission to serve the common good, its local economy and its 1,200 members through ethically sourced products. The co-op’s annual sales are nearly $2.5 million.

Assabet Co-op Market was founded in 2013 in Maynard, Massachusetts. With more than 1,700 owners, Assabet operates on the mission of supporting the regional food system, strengthening the local economy, and promoting the well-being of its members, community and environment. The co-op will open its first store — a 6,000-foot retail space just 11 minutes from downtown Maynard — in 2022.

“High Falls Co-op was founded nearly 50 years ago and Assabet Co-op Market is a start-up about to realize its first store opening,” said C.E. Pugh, chief executive officer, NCG. “Despite being at different stages in their evolution, these co-ops are both committed to empowering their communities and providing their neighbors with fresh, healthy, local food. NCG is delighted to welcome them as members.”

NCG’s board of directors approved the membership applications from High Falls Co-op and Assabet Co-op Market at a meeting on October 11th.
